I know exactly how you feel. I had the same experience. I've been licensed for a few years, but I always go back to retail. Last month I decided to try insurance again and I gave up a good salary to join a Medicare Advantage company. The salary for captive agents is very low, but he promised me as many as 2 seminars a day, paid for by the company. He said there would be no cold calling and I would be working within my local community. The company is taking out full page ads in the newspaper and hosting lunches for seniors. I just got the seminar schedule today. I have 1 seminar this week and 1 next week. The number of prospects who registered is disappointing, but perhaps some people will just show up at the restaurant. Since I joined, he hired several more agents. He said he would only have 3 in my county. Now he expects me to cold call the rest of the time from county records of people turning 65 and set up seminars in adult communities. I could have done that on my own, and if I were a broker I'd be making 4 times the commission on each policy, but I didn't want to cold call or plan my own seminars. I'm learning never to believe the hype.
