Cons:
Overhead, Hiring support people, that know what they're doing, at a pretty high price. If you hire people that don't know what they're doing you're out of business before you start. Professional liability, rent.

Loyalty, you have to understand the mind of the independent agent, you might be the flavor of the month this month but we're constantly looking for a better product for our clients. If you drop the ball and miss a new product from a reputable company we're gone and odds are you'll never see us again.

Stability. If you choose to venture out on your own keep in mind you can lose every agent you have in a matter of weeks.

Your job description: You'll be wearing alot of hats.

Pro's:
Freedom, Entrepreneurial Enterprise, Challenge. It's a different world. If you have a high level of energy, can deal with a fluctuating cash flow the first three years it MIGHT WORK.

I've been on both sides of the fence. Both sides have alot of upside and downside. All I can say is weigh it very carefully, be sure you have a sizable bankroll going in, and remember no benefits or retirement unless you set it up and that ain't cheap.

Best of Luck,
Paul
