You were incorrect on your debate for one simple reason.
You called your personal inflation rate a "rule of thumb". Never mind the bizarre basket of goods you used to get it. Never mind the fact that you calculated it in an incorret matter.
The fact is, a "rule of thumb" must have widespread applicability.
Your personal inflation rate of a strange basket of bizarre goods barely has applicability to you, much less to anybody else.
As such, it could not be a "rule of thumb", as it does not have widespread applicability.
Is that hard for you to understand?
